Belitung Literacy Festival Celebrates Language Month with Youth and Education Spirit

Belitung Regency celebrated National Language Month by holding the Belitung Literacy Festival, an event aimed at encouraging reading and writing culture among younger generations. The festival brought together students from junior and senior high schools across Belitung, highlighting the importance of literacy as a foundation for an open-minded and progressive society.

The event was organized through a collaboration between the Belitung Regency Government, the Regional Library and Archives Office (Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Daerah), and Belitong UNESCO Global Geopark. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthen educational and cultural development in the region through interactive and inspiring literacy activities.

The first day of the festival featured a literacy talk show and the official opening ceremony of the Belitung Literacy Festival. One of the key moments was the inauguration of the “Bunda Literasi” (Mother of Literacy) for Belitung Regency, held by the Regent’s wife. This symbolic role is dedicated to inspiring young people and promoting literacy as a window to knowledge, creativity, and progress.

In her remarks, the newly inaugurated Bunda Literasi emphasized that literacy is more than just reading and writing, it is the key to shaping a brighter future for Belitung. Through reading, critical thinking, and storytelling, the younger generation can build a more intelligent, inclusive, and visionary society.

Through initiatives like this, Belitong shows its dedication to nurturing a generation that loves reading, values knowledge, and takes pride in its identity as part of a UNESCO Global Geopark region that promotes education and sustainability.
