Surrounded by calm, clear waters and lush wetland vegetation, Tebat Rasau invites visitors to slow down and enjoy an authentic local experience. The area is believed to be shaped by an ancient river system that flowed millions of years ago, leaving behind a beautiful landscape of river valleys and distinctive rasau plants, a type of water pandanus that gives the site its name and helps protect the local ecosystem.
Managed by local river fishermen through the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) Lanun, Tebat Rasau reflects a strong community-based tourism approach. Visitors can walk along scenic wooden bridges (keretak) stretching over the river, observe daily fishing activities, and capture stunning photos with a backdrop of green wetlands and flowing water. The experience is enriched by local traditions, including makan bedulang, a shared dining culture featuring traditional Belitung dishes such as gangan (freshwater fish soup), along with a cup of local coffee known as kopi kutang or kopi tanggar. Visitors may also explore the river by traditional boat, listen to stories about local life and geology from community guides, or simply relax and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, especially during sunrise and sunset.
As part of a protected geopark area, Tebat Rasau is managed with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation. Visitors are encouraged to respect nature, keep the area clean, and follow local guidelines. Located in East Belitung, Tebat Rasau can be reached in around 1.5 hours by car from Tanjung Pandan, with generally good road access. To ensure a comfortable visit, guests are advised to inform the site management at least one day in advance. Tebat Rasau Geosite is an ideal destination for eco-tourism lovers, photographers, and travelers seeking a calm, meaningful connection with nature and local culture.
