Young Geopark Ambassadors Program Launched at Tanjung Kelayang

Belitong, 14 February 2026 — SDN 17 Tanjungpandan officially launched its Duta Geopark (Young Geopark Ambassadors) program today, marking a meaningful step in introducing geopark values to the younger generation. The event was opened by the General Manager of Belitong Geopark and held at Tanjung Kelayang Geosite, one of Belitong’s iconic natural sites.

The program is designed as an educational initiative that encourages children to understand the importance of protecting nature, culture, and geological heritage. By learning directly at a geosite, students gain early awareness of environmental responsibility and sustainable living.

The launch event featured students wearing traditional Belitongnese attire, with colorful outfits symbolizing the spirit, creativity, and diversity of children as future guardians of the geopark. Performances included storytelling and traditional dances that conveyed messages about the role of children in caring for the environment and preserving local heritage.

The Duta Geopark initiative reflects Belitong Geopark’s commitment to education as a core pillar of geopark development. Through culture-based learning and hands-on experiences, the program aims to nurture pride in local identity while strengthening environmental awareness from an early age.

This activity reinforces the role of Belitong Geopark as a living classroom, where conservation, education, and culture come together to inspire future generations to protect and celebrate Belitong’s natural heritage.
