Gunung Tajam, also known as Tajam Mountain, is the highest peak on Belitong Island and a must-visit geosite for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Geologically, Gunung Tajam is part of the Tajam Formation, consisting mainly of quartz sandstone with layers of siltstone. In some parts, quartz veins contain traces of primary tin and rare earth elements (REE), making this site not only beautiful but also scientifically significant. The rocks here date back to the Permo-Carboniferous period, meaning they are more than 250 million years old.
Along the hiking trails, visitors pass through Kerangas Forest, a unique heath forest growing on sandy soils. This ecosystem supports a variety of flora and fauna found only in Belitong. One highlight along the way is the Gurok Beraye Waterfall, a refreshing stop before reaching the peak.
